How To Make A Spirit Doll — The Journey of Magickal Design

I’ve always wanted to make my own spirit dolls, but the task just seemed overwhelming. I had no idea how to make a spirit doll. But now? Silver Raven Wolf has outlined her entire process for us, including patterns.

I can’t wait to get started! I may not stay true to her design, but that’s the whole point – she has given me the tools and ideas to get started creating my own spirit dolls. Enjoy.

New Moon Spirit Dolls — The Journey of Design

I don’t know why I started designing these Spirit Dolls.  Maybe it was watching Lord Thorn quietly sew together a ritual robe for his friend by hand the other week.

“Why aren’t you using a sewing machine?” I asked.

He smiled.  “I don’t have one.  Besides, I find stitching it by hand more fulfilling.”

I thought about that.  There is a special kind of contemplative joy in working magick while stitching something by hand.  Too, the end product always seems to have more power.

Or, maybe it was because I wrote the article on conjuring bags and my mind simply stepped to the next level.  Or, perhaps a book I was looking at on found object art at the local crafting store sent the creative part of me whirling…whatever the reason…

When the Universe Speaks to Me

Sometimes tension and stress accumulate so gradually that we just don’t notice, or at least I don’t always notice, and then it becomes the unhealthy “normal.”

It’s been a troubling week on many levels. Shootings in America, the passing of two acquaintances, and the illness and hospitalization of others – every day has brought a new challenge.

Earlier tonight, when I least expected it, someone posted a music video on Facebook. I was intrigued that it was played with two of my favorite instruments, a violin and the harp.

Some music seems destined to soothe the soul, regardless of beliefs.

This tune is one of those songs.

It is an instrumental and it’s powerful. I found myself taking a deep breath and releasing stress without even thinking about it. I felt better.  The music was my medicine. I listened twice, shared it to my timeline, and kept on browsing.

I clicked onto another Facebook page, and would you believe that I saw the same song title posted by someone else, performed by another group, this time with vocals?

I love it when the Universe speaks to me.

That’s why I knew I had to share them here. I like to blog about the things that help me, so I can have easy access to them later. This is my stress-releasing musical post. I hope someone else enjoys it as much as I do.

Both videos are posted below.

Take four minutes to relax to this beautiful and harmonious melody that truly is music to soothe the soul.

Be Thou My Vision
Audrey Assad
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art
High King of Heaven, my victory won
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heav’n’s Sun
Heart of my own heart, whate’er befall
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all

Tribal Family History

Today I was fortunate enough to see a posting on Facebook by Gianni Crow, who feeds my soul often with his words.

My father was a home builder, actually a contractor, and was very successful. He was well known not only for his skill set, but also for his integrity and honesty. He always said that a man was only as good as his word, and his word was solid.

As an adult, I began searching for distant ancestors of my father. I discovered that the name meant “boss” in Dutch, and that many of his ancestors were ship builders.

This was particularly interesting to me, because my father’s brother and at least one of my father’s grandchildren went into home building, and one ended up working for a boat manufacturer for a short time. Other members of the family also had short term work in some type of building industry, such as drawing house plans, installing tile floors and patios, etc.

Coincidence? Not in my mind.

As GC quoted, it’s Tribal Family History.

That’s why I was thrilled when I read the following. These are the words that express my feelings… I simply could not find them on my own.

Grandfather said: All human beings had a tribal family history before they got civilized and forgot their true meaning in life. ~GC (Gianni Crow)

I’ve often said “it’s in the blood” when unusual coincidences occur, but tribal family history strikes a more resounding chord within my heart.

We are so much more than we know.

I hope you are enjoying the journey.
